5 Ways a Positive Shared Experience Boosts the Bottom Line

It’s the heart of what I do: creating a positive shared experience for audiences of all sizes and backgrounds. In the case of my business, this means producing trivia contests for corporate groups in NYC and beyond – however, the base concept is the same as any other group activity, be it a scavenger hunt, cooking class, sailing lesson or ropes course.

I can make a passionate case for why these events are fun, but do they actually do what most bosses REALLY want out of them, which is to boost the bottom line? Yes – here’s how:

  • 1.     Improved Workplace Trust – If your colleagues trust each other better, they will more readily place their confidence in one another, as well as withhold vital information less. This means a more efficient workplace
  • 2.     Better Individual & Team Collaboration – Collaboration is a force multiplayer: when your people are playing nicer together in the sandbox, they will produce better, more innovative work in less time
  • 3.     Better Communication – Be it during meetings, via Email or over the phone, people who communicate clearly, concisely and directly help get things done smarter, faster, and with better results
  • 4.     Swifter Conflict Resolution – When your people are battling with each other, they’re doing a disservice to your clients, as well as to your business overall. Give them an experience which reinforces the value of resolving conflict swiftly, and you will eliminate a huge internal roadblock impeding maximum revenue generation
  • 5.     People Stop Taking Things So Seriously – Don’t get me wrong here: work IS serious, and should be treated as such by employees at all levels. However, within every office there is a power struggle which exists – a well-executed positive experience which gets people laughing has an incredibly disarming effect, helping people realize we’re all just human beings; forget the conflicts, forget the politics, let’s just get back to work!
