When it Comes to Pop Culture, Are You an 80s, 90s or 00s Kid?

brooklyn.trivia.nightWe’re getting super psyched about our special “90 vs 00s” Pop Culture Trivia Challenge hosted by NY1’s Pat Kiernan at The Bell House on March 20th – so psyched, in fact, one month from today, on Wednesday, March 13th, I’m hosting a special 80s-themed “trivia teaser” (which is FREE – come enjoy!)

Tickets to Pat’s event are going incredibly fast, and we expect another sellout crowd of 300 to participate in a high-energy, high-stakes team trivia contest! But what is it about this theme which has resonated so well? I’ve been pondering this recently, and have come to the conclusion that people really identify with one specific decade of their youth.

Even though I went to high school and college in the 90s, I consider myself an 80s kid. My most nostalgic pop culture memories are from that decade, when I was too young to really go out and do anything of consequence on my own, but plenty able to listen to music, watch TV and enjoy movies (which were either on VHS, or watched in bits and pieces on HBO over various start/end times). Though I don’t think of the 80s often, when I do – and in my unique line of work, this happens – it brings back a flood of positive memories, including obscure details, characters, plots, lyric, celebrities and more. I’m an 80s kid, and that’s that!

But what are you?

Which decade do you identify with when it comes to pop culture? If you are planning to join for trivia us at The Bell House next month, which 10-year span will you “own?”

If you have a moment, please share in the comments section which decade is “yours,” and why!

Even better would be to share a TV/movie/music clip from your favorite decade on our Facebook page, or via our @TrivWorks Twitter feed – use our official #PatsTrivia hashtag, and we’ll RT!
